What was the most cherished gift you received this year? What were the most thoughtful gifts you gave?

For it is in giving that we receive. ~Saint Francis of Assisi
This year I gave to the Humane Society (through automatic monthly donations) , The Gentle Barn and IFAW (International Fund for Animal Welfare). Although I gave money to these organizations, I feel I am the bigger recipient every time I get word of the animals who were saved or the progress that has been made towards making life more tolerable for abused animals.

The most memorable gift this year has been the gift of family. My mom, sister, brother-in-law, new step-daughter and her girlfriend, along with a few other family members and friends came to North Lake Tahoe to join us for Christmas and our wedding. Being able to spend time with these amazing people in such a beautiful setting reminds me just how wonderful life is.
My husband and I give to our state Golden Retriever Rescue who operates solely on donations. There's just something about giving to something when you know exactly where the money is going and there are plenty of volunteers around to tell you what the money is being used for.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this photo. You all look so happy and festive. Surrounded by those you love is the best gift of all.
I agree...there's a big difference when your donation (whether in time or money) is more tangible. I love going to our local no-kill shelter to drop off dog and cat food (and treats, of course). Not only seeing the fur-babies but the wonderful people who donate so much time reignites that desire to do more...for everyone. My only problem is to NOT come home with a new addition to the family!
